Domino’s Pizza is here!

Published: October 2014

Following the announcement shared by Taste Holdings that it has signed an exclusive 30 year master licence agreement to develop Domino’s Pizza in South Africa, the franchise group is set to open the doors of this renowned brand shortly.

Considered the world's leading pizza delivery chain in both store numbers and unit sales, Domino's Pizza has over 10,800 outlets in more than 70 countries. This international brand will initially be developed in seven Southern African countries, including South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, with Zambia and Malawi to follow pending the fulfilment of certain conditions.

"We are excited to be able to share the news that South Africans will very shortly have the opportunity to taste the world renowned Domino's Pizza for themselves. We have no doubt that the brand’s introduction will also afford even greater business opportunities for both existing and potential business owners who are looking to make a mark in the fast food franchising market," says CEO of Taste Holdings, Carlo Gonzaga.

Founded in 1960, Domino's Pizza is the recognised world leader in pizza delivery, with more than 1 million pizzas being delivered daily worldwide, a figure that is set to escalate once the Domino’s Pizza stores open across the country. More impressively, Domino's Pizza currently holds the number one position in the market for pizza delivery in 38 markets, including the United Kingdom, India, Mexico, Australia, South Korea, Turkey and France. Their international outlets have experienced 20 consecutive years of positive same store sales growth - a record that Taste Holdings intends to emulate in the future.

"Following the announcement of our master licence earlier in the year, we have been working fervently to ensure the Domino’s Pizza experience in South Africa will exceed the expectations of those who have tried it abroad. We want to ensure that not only do we offer consumers the legendary taste that makes Domino's Pizza so successful, but that the brand also attains some South African flavour to keep it relevant for the local market. While we will be introducing authentic American-styled pepperoni to the market, we have also kept a few local pizzas on the menu to keep our South African pizza connoisseurs happy,” adds Gonzaga.

Domino's Pizza will initially open with six stores this year in the Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban regions, with plans to rapidly expand throughout the rest of the country in early 2015. Along with their expansion plans, the brand will also become Taste Holdings' leading pizza franchise offering. Current Scooters Pizza and St Elmo’s franchisees in the group will be given the opportunity and assistance to convert to Domino’s Pizza franchises going forward.

"Domino’s Pizza is the leader in a number of its markets. We intend to not only meet but exceed the standards of the brand in our own local market to ensure its legacy is strengthened even more in our country. It is our goal to ensure that South Africa is one of the top Domino’s Pizza markets very soon," concludes Gonzaga.
