BISTRO SIXTEEN82 CELEBRATES WORLD CUISINEPublished: 27 February 2013
Chef Brad Ball’s latest Tapas creations are an adventurous move away from traditional Spanish tapas, and are set to give diners a taste of authentic dishes served in local cafés of these five countries, across three continents. Regulars will be pleased to know that Chef Brad’s signature Tapas dishes will also be available to order, along with a tempting Winter Tapas Special comprising a choice of any two dishes from the Tapas menu served with a carafe of one of the Klein Steenberg wines all at R90 per person. The delicious international Tapas journey will run from May to October, starting in Italy, the home of exuberant eating. With delectable bite-sized portions of Chicken Liver Crostini with grilled focaccia, onion marmalade and oregano – a favoured Tuscan meal; and Breaded Baby Mozzarella with bocconcinni, panko crumbs and salsa verdi on the menu, it’s the perfect indulgence for fans of Italian cuisine. In June, diners are invited to drop in for a taste of the Middle-East with zesty portions of Zahtar Beef - a serving of Grilled Sirloin sprinkled with zahtar spice and drizzled with tangy tsatziki; or try Baba Ghanoush, a delicious Mediterranean dip served with a silky portion of Eggplant Purée with tahini and cumin, to be spread over a healthy chunk of yufka flatbread - straight from the tables of Turkey. In August, palates will be transported to the heart of Scandinavia with unusual menu choices such as a Prawn Skagen - a portion of Norwegian prawns, garnished with mayonnaise, dill, and salmon roe; and a Beetroot Cured Salmon with lemon crème fraîche and pickled cucumber to explore. September makes a turn in Mexico, known for its tangy Spanish flavours, and Ball’s creative menu, once again, will not disappoint. With share-size portions of Chile de Arbol Wings – Chicken Wings in hot sauce served with celery and creamy queso fresca; and Flautas de Puerco, a helping of Pulled Pork with a crisp flour tortilla and peppery smoked jalapeño crema on the menu, this may well be one of the most popular choices. October is the opportunity for fans of Oriental cuisine, with exotic dishes like Sticky Chinese Ribs - a serving of perfectly prepared Pork Ribs sprinkled with star anise and covered in hoisin sauce; and a small-dish serving of Teriyaki Chicken, a grilled thigh sweetened with soy sauce and spiked with lots of fresh ginger, honey and chilli - reflecting Ball’s passion for authentic Japanese cooking. Bistro Sixteen82, voted one of Cape Town’s Best Bistros by Eat Out 2013, is the choice for a stint of shared small-plates dining, with a glass or two of Steenberg’s fine food-wines to ensure that the conversation is nothing less than scintillating. With its glorious vineyards setting, this trendy all-occasion restaurant is perfect for a relaxing late-afternoon or early evening rendezvous in the Constantia Valley. Live music is offered on Thursday nights with popular guitar duo Kubu Strings setting the vibe with their Flamenco rhythms from 18:00 to 20:00 – a great way to start the weekend early! Bistro Sixteen82 will be closed for its annual break from 1st July until 24th July. |
